What is the role of observer platforms in observing and adjusting fires?

Observer platforms provide real-time battlefield visibility to watch fires in action and guide corrections so rounds land where and when intended. They identify the target area, monitor rounds as they impact, and transmit precise adjustments—such as bearing, range, and firing data—so the firing unit can refine the aim point and synchronize effects with the desired time on target. They also account for wind, drift, and ballistic conditions, and help ensure safety by confirming target identity and location. They do not plan meals, they do not replace the Targeting Board, and they do not physically move targets; their role is to observe and adjust to achieve accurate, timely fires.
