In targeting, the Center of Gravity (COG) is best described as:

In targeting, the Center of Gravity is the enemy’s primary source of power that enables success. It’s the element, capability, or system the adversary relies on to act and win. If you disrupt or degrade this core source, you create cascading effects that undermine their ability to conduct operations over time. It’s not merely the most vulnerable point, a temporary terrain advantage, or a minor choke point—those are weaknesses or situational factors. The COG is the sustaining power behind their actions, so focusing on it yields the most strategic impact.
